What is a Solvent in Science? A substance in which solute is dissolved and forms solution is a solvent. Generally solvent is a liquid but it can also be a solid, a gas, or a supercritical fluid. The quantity of solute which is dissolved in a specific volume of solvent varies with temperature.
Solvents uses
The term 'solvent' is applied to a large number of chemical substances which are used to dissolve or dilute other substances or materials. They are usually organic liquids. Many solvents are also used as chemical intermediates, fuels, and as components of a wide range of products.
